Universal Ostrich Farm

Farmers care deeply about their animals and will do everything they can to protect them. At Universal Ostrich Farms, the ostriches are private property, and the farmers’ livelihoods depend on being able to raise and care for them. Canadians expect transparency and diligence when it comes to animal safety and biosecurity, but this Liberal government hasn’t explained why a cull is necessary or why re-testing isn’t an option.

At a time when Canada’s agriculture sector is already being unfairly targeted by other countries, we can’t afford to put farmers’ livelihoods at even greater risk by ignoring our own commitments and creating new trade problems. With the recent court stay now in place, we’re calling on the Liberal government to make sure the CFIA follows proper procedures, works with the farmers, and protects Canadian agriculture. If these ostriches truly pose a health or safety risk to humans and livestock, Canadians deserve to see the evidence that justifies such a drastic measure.
