Rising Crime Rate in Cranbrook

I’d like to thank business owners in Cranbrook for attending yesterday’s town-hall and voicing their frustrations over the issue of crime in the city. Thanks also to MLA Shypitka and Mayor Pratt for joining me to hear these concerns.
 
Drug addiction is fueling this rise in criminal activity, and it is important that individuals be offered the help that is needed. However, repeat offenders who are committing crime must be deterred by police enforcement and application of the law. We cannot leave it to the business community, and the youth they employ, to address this issue. The short-term goal is to alleviate the pressure on local business owners and the long-term solution is to address addiction issues, which will require a non-partisan effort by all levels of government.
